Welcome to Class 6 2021/22. The Class Teacher is Miss Clarey and there are 30 pupils in this class. This class is supported by Mrs Hird.
About Me
Hello! My name is Miss Clarey and this is my first year teaching a Consett Junior School, or anywhere for that matter! I recently graduated from Durham University, where I have spent the last three years preparing for a career in teaching, and where better to begin my journey! I am so excited to be joining the Consett Junior School family and cannot wait to get to know my class and the whole school community. I am very passionate about supporting every child to reach their full potential, all whilst making sure that learning is fun and enjoyable for all!
When I am not in the classroom you will find me on the dance floor, as a trained dancer I spend some of my evenings at my local dance school, participating in tap, ballet and jazz classes. I also love to spend quality time with my friends and family – not forgetting my two dogs, Daisy and Harry!
About Class 6
I am very excited to get to know my class and work alongside them for the year. Class 6 are lucky enough to have Mrs Hird supporting full time! Also, on a Wednesday, Mr Moore will be teaching class 6 some very exciting science lessons.
With what will hopefully be a more normal year ahead of us, I cannot wait for the exciting opportunities this school year will bring. We have some hard work to complete, but we will have lots of fun along the way!
English
This term, in our English lessons, we will be reading the Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. This book will take our imaginations on an exciting journey and help us to produce some very creative pieces of work – be prepared to venture beyond our classroom and into the Nowhere Emporium! We will also be working hard to learn and apply lots of new grammar skills and spelling rules so we can mature as authors.
Maths
Throughout the year, we are going to be working on improving our mathematical fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. We will also be doing lots of times tables practice using TT rockstars, both in school and at home – are you ready to become a rock hero?
In the first half term, we will be reawakening our mathematical brains by taking a look at place value. In this unit we will be recognising and writing 6 digit numbers, comparing and ordering numbers, rounding and so much more!
Our topics for this term are:
Science: Earth in space
PE: Gymnastics (indoor) and Tag rugby (outdoor)
History: Vikings and Anglo Saxons
RE: Sikhism
Art: Architecture
Computing: Coding
PSHCE: New beginnings
Children have access to Accelerated Reader from school and home and are encouraged to use this site by logging in with their unique passwords.
