‘Veg Power’

9th June 2021 By dawnraine

Our cook has requested that the children of our school take part in a campaign called ‘Veg Power’ which starts after half term, the first vegetable is tomatoes.

She will be doing a load of tasters each week around the chosen vegetable and also running a competition each week for the best ‘Vegetable Creation’. This can be anything at all, a model, picture, painting, food item as long as it is about the vegetable of the week. Children are requested to bring their best vegetable creations into school by each Friday for the chance to win a small prize (stationary or similar NOT sweets) and the winner of each week will go into the main draw for overall winner at the end of the campaign.

Children must keep checking the school kitchen hatch for more details.

The ‘power packs’ were sent home yesterday so families can read what it entails. We will keep the gallery below updated every week to feature all the entries…

Good luck

Cleopatra…On Teams in Year 3…no way!

9th June 2021 By dawnraine

Now we’ve heard people saying that Teams meetings are getting a bit old and boring but have you ever had a call from someone over 3000 years old……. well Year 3 have! We were surprised with a call from Cleopatra today 😲(and she wasn’t as old and wrinkly as we’d expected).

We were transfixed by her ancient tales and terrors and learnt many interesting facts. Did you know that the Egyptians invented toothpaste? Except it wasn’t minty flavour… it was made from Ox hooves and ground egg shells *🤢YUCK*

We bid Cleopatra a fond farewell and are looking forward to examining our mummified tomatoes in 10 days time!

Hand Picked Sweet Bags for Sale – Year 6

6th May 2021 By dawnraine

Dear year 6 families,

We have a keen and growing entrepreneur in year 6 and he is wanting to sell bags of sweets to the students to ‘test the market’ every Friday. He will roll this out in year 6 initially. If children would like to purchase a hand picked sweet bag can they bring £1 to school tomorrow. These sweets are to be brought home at the end of the day. His parents have supported him with this and images are below.

This week Class 2 became Ancient Egyptian embalmers!… OUCH!

30th April 2021 By dawnraine

First we were sent a mysterious letter and had to answer the questions to crack the hieroglyphics code which unlocked our new class book!

Then Miss White became an embalmer and turned poor Carly into a mummy!! Although Carly wasn’t hurt in the demonstration she did get VERY sticky with ‘jelly gore’!!

Then it was our turn to mummify a tomato 🍅

First, we scooped out all of the tomato gore! The Egyptians removed the lungs, liver, stomach and the intestines and placed them in canopic jars.

Next, we covered our dead bodies (tomatoes) in palm wine (anti-bacterial handwash) to clean the body.

Finally, we covered the tomatoes in salt to dry them out, just like the Egyptians used natron! We created natron using a mix of salt and bicarbonate of soda.

Now we will wait patiently for 50 days to see the results… stay tuned!
