Today we had a special assembly where members of Consett Rotary club presented one of our children with a special Rotary Award.
As a school, we chose to present the award to Charli Hopper.
Charli was born with a very poorly heart and when she was a tiny baby she had to have an operation so that doctors and nurses could fix it. We think that when they were operating on Charli they must have sprinkled some magical, golden dust on her heart because she has grown into a girl with a heart of gold!
When Charli was just 9 years old, she sorted out some clothes that did not fit her anymore for one of her cousins. Her cousin was extremely grateful and thankful, which made Charli think that she could help more people in a similar way. Charli set up a page on Facebook called ‘Give Something Back’, where people can post pictures of things that they no longer want like furniture, clothes, toys etc. Then other people from our community can have them. There are almost 3000 members in this Facebook group and I am sure many people in the area have benefited from this page.
Charli also supports Hope North East, which is a charity that helps homeless people in the North East as well as local food banks. This year she is running the Children’s Great North Run for the Children’s Heart Unit Foundation.
We think Charli is an inspiration to all and we are so proud to have her and her family as part of our school community.
