Welcome to Class 8 2018/19. The Class Teacher is Miss Waters and there are currently 24 pupils in this class. Miss Oselton supports this class.
My name is Miss Waters and I am Deputy Headteacher at Consett Junior School. I have been a teacher for nine years now, teaching mainly in Year 6. I love working at Consett Junior School as this is my hometown and I actually came to this school as a child, so I am extremely passionate about ensuring every child achieves their full potential while they are here. On evenings after school I like to swim and play the cornet in Consett Brass Band. I also enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family.
About Class 8
Class 8 will be working really hard this year as the all-important SATs tests approach but we will also have some good fun along the way!
This half term our class novel is Wonder, which focuses on being kind and appreciating that everyone is different. We will be writing diary entries, newspaper reports, letters, setting descriptions, persuasive arguments and lots more different text types.
In Maths we are working hard, to improve the speed of our times table recall. We are focusing on problem solving and reasoning in Maths. We still have lots to cover before SATs such as co-ordinates, angles and translation.
We have been so busy this half term with a trip to Beamish, our school Christmas show, preparing for the carol service, watching Dick Whittington, competing in an athletics competition and much more!
We loved decorating the classroom and Miss Waters has introduced a kindness calendar to class. It’s a bit like an advent calendar because you get a special treat but you also get a kindness mission to do that day! We have really loved the challenges such as ‘give a friend a compliment’ ‘ask a teacher how their day has been’ and ‘give the people at home a hug and tell them you love them’. We are enjoying it so much we are thinking of doing another one in January! Who says you can’t have chocolate in January?!
We are doing really well on the Reading Race in school, which means our class are getting lots of signatures for reading at home last half term! Thank you to parents for signing the reading diaries when they have seen children reading. Please keep promoting a love of reading at home.
See the school blog for updates on things we have done in school. Miss Waters puts everything we do on there!
