Welcome to Class 8 2017/18. The Class Teacher is Miss Waters and there are currently 26 pupils in this class. This class will be supported by Mrs Gilray and Miss Oselton.
My name is Miss Waters and I have recently been made Deputy Headteacher at Consett Junior School. I have been a teacher for eight years now, teaching mainly in Year 6. I love working at Consett Junior School as this is my home town and I actually came to this school as a child, so I am extremely passionate about ensuring every child achieves their full potential while they are here. On evenings after school I like to swim and play the cornet in Consett Brass Band. I also enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family.
About Class 8
Class 8 will be working really hard this year as the all-important SATs tests approach but we will also have some good fun along the way!
This half term our Literacy work will link to our topic of World War One will be based on the book ‘Private Peaceful’ by Michael Morpurgo. We will be writing diary entries, newspaper reports, letters, setting descriptions, persuasive arguments and lots more different text types. We are also preparing for the SPAG and Reading test paper, although SPAG is our main focus because we all did really well in the Reading practise paper last half term.
In Maths we are working really hard to improve the speed of our times table recall. We are focusing on problem solving and reasoning in Maths and we are beginning to get the hang of this. We still have lots to cover before SATs such as co-ordinates, angles and translation but we are happy that we have all made progress in our test scores.
We are running after school booster sessions this half term in preparation for SATs. These run on a Thursday night 3.30pm- 4.45pm. All children are welcome.
We have yet again won the Reading Race in school, which means our class had the most signatures for reading at home last half ter.! Thank you to parents for signing the reading diaries when they have seen children reading. Please keep promoting reading at home.
The children love the new accelerated reader programme in school and this has resulted in brilliant reading results for all children in Class 8 this half term!!
We are currently working with Consett Academy on a project that we can do after SATs, which will help with transition. A member of the Academy team will be available for parents to chat to at our parents evening on Thursday 22nd March.
