Welcome to Class 6 2018/19. The Class Teacher is Mr Moore and there are currently 24 pupils in this class. This class is supported by Mrs Hughes and Mrs Gilray.
Hello, my name is Mr Moore and I have been teaching for five years. This will be my fifth year at Consett Junior School. I have worked in Year 5 every year I have been here and enjoy the day to day challenges of helping children learn new skills and knowledge.
At the weekends, I enjoy relaxing by going for walks with my wife, son and dog, George and cycling.
About Class 6
I am really looking forward to the new year and getting to know the class. There are 24 children in the class and this will allow me to work closely with all of the children. Mrs Gilray will work with me and the class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
This term, we have been reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief to help inspire us to write an excellent range of work from interesting and exciting setting descriptions to very bolshie letters of complaint. We have also read some Greek Mythology to provide the children with a different writing perspective and to show them how traditional tales have been told. We continue to follow the accelerated reader scheme that continues to challenge the children’s’ reading.
Numeracy will continue to challenge the children with the focus moving on from the four main operations to applying them to real life situations and puzzles. This year will also see an increase in the amount of fraction work the children are expected to do and understand. The times tables will still be a key part of their learning and the ability to understand the inverse number facts.
Our topics for this term are:
Science: space – we will be looking at the solar system, the moon, sun and earth and the relationships that they have with each other.
History: Ancient Greece – we will look at how the Ancient Greeks have influenced modern day life and what they have provided us with
Art : Pop art and fashion from the 1960’s
Geography: Mountains – we will look at how they are classified, where they are, how they affect the environment and weather.
ICT – E – Safety
R.E. – Sikhism
P.E. – is every Tuesday and Wednesday. Children should bring their kit to school on Monday and take it home at the end of the week. Wednesday is an outdoor session, so appropriate clothing (long sleeve tops and jogging bottoms) should be provided. We are also completing a Playleaders award in school, so that the children can help inspire other children to take part in sport.
