Welcome to Class 6 2019/20. The Class Teacher is Mr Moore and there are currently 29 pupils in this class. This class is supported by Miss Shield.
Hello, my name is Mr Moore and I have been teaching for seven years. This will be my sixth year at Consett Junior School. I have worked in Year 5 every year I have been here and enjoy the day to day challenges of helping children learn new skills and knowledge.
At the weekends, I enjoy relaxing by going for walks with my wife, son and dog, George and cycling.
About Class 6
I am really looking forward to the new year and getting to know the class. There are 29 children in the class and this will allow me to work closely with all of the children. Mrs Shield will work with me and the class all week.
This year in Literacy, we will be looking at a wide range of resources to inspire our writing. This will range from videos, songs, short stories and poems. We will continue to learn new spelling rules and practise punctuation and grammar rules.
Numeracy will continue to challenge the children with the focus moving on from the four main operations to applying them to real life situations and puzzles. This year will also see an increase in the amount of fraction work the children are expected to do and understand. The times tables will still be a key part of their learning and the ability to understand the inverse number facts.
Our topics for this term are:
Science: space – we will be looking at the solar system, the moon, sun and earth and the relationships that they have with each other.
History: Vikings – we look at the Vikings, how they arrived in this country, why they came and how they have influenced modern day Britain.
Art : Pop art and fashion from the 1960’s
Geography: Mountains – we will look at how they are classified, where they are, how they affect the environment and weather.
ICT – E – Safety
R.E. – Sikhism
PE: Tag Rugby and OAA. This year PE will be every Monday and Friday afternoon. For this half term, outdoor PE kit will be needed for both sessions.

Lockdown Time Capsule
Hopefully before the end of term we will bury the time capsule in the school grounds. The capsule is part of a project run by Mark Wilkinson Photography. Photographs Mark has received will be printed and placed in the time capsule which will be buried for ten years. To accompany the photographs we are asking the children to write a letter and place it in a sealed envelope. The letter can be about time in lock down, things children did, how they felt, anything they feel relevant. We do want the children to include the date, their age, their class teacher and their first name. But they must not include surnames, phone numbers or their address.
In 2030 we will dig up the capsule and all contents will form part of a history event for our future CJS children.
6th Pack (22nd June) – prepared for children of all ability.
If your child completes this work, and/or would like a further challenge, why not go to the Class 7 or 8 page and have a go at the work set for our current Year 6. If children struggle with their Year 5 work, they can also go to the Class 3 or 4 page and have a go at their work.
Other ways to facilitate learning during the school closure:
Ensure your child reads every day.
Use accelerated reader to take reading tests.
Access times table rockstars
Access lexia (if your child uses this at school).
