Welcome to Class 1 2017/18. The Class Teacher is Mrs McMahon and there are currently 26 pupils in this class. This class is supported by Mrs Shield.
My name is Mrs McMahon and this is my 12th year at Consett Junior School. I’ve just recently returned after being on Maternity leave with my little boy. I also have a little girl who is coming up 3. I love music, especially classical music and musical theatre. When I have time I like playing my violin with an orchestra, taking part in musicals or singing in choirs. However with two small children most of my spare time is spent at Beamish, Gibside, Adventure Valley or a soft play! It’s lovely to be back after my Maternity leave and I’m looking forward to this year with Year 3.
About Class 1
I’m really looking forward to this new academic year and getting to know all the new Year 3 children. There are 26 children in class 1 this year. Mrs Shield will be working with us all week apart from a Friday afternoon and Mrs Taylor will be teaching the class on a Monday and also a Wednesday afternoon.
In Literacy this half term, we will be working from the books Gorilla and The tunnel both written by Anthony Browne. We will be writing diary entries, non-chronological reports about gorillas and writing our own sequels and adventure stories.
In Numeracy this half term we will be concentrating on place value and the four number operations )addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
Our History topic this half term is Stone Age to Iron Age. Our Art will be linked to this topic too. Children will have the opportunity to explore cave art and experiment using different tools to create their own cave art.
The children in Year 3 will also be studying Animals including Humans in Science. In ICT they will learn how to stay safe when using the internet and in R.E. they will be learning about the Hindu faith. Children will also start French lessons and go swimming on a Thursday as part of their P.E.
