Over the last 13 weeks we have worked with well over 30 children as part of the Summer Term Nurture Club. The purpose of this club was to bring together a group of children from all years who have either been in-year transfers (from neighbouring schools), have a boasting personality, or who are generally quiet in school. We were amazed at the growth of the children over the weeks they have attended our club, and the engagement processes they have passed through week by week.
Every week we did a new activity or game, there was no pressure to be involved, they could just spend the time having fun and being ‘kids’. Finding time in busy lives to ‘play’ and have fun is sometimes difficult, with time being precious or governed by other daily chores. From watching children in the first week, in comparison to last nights session has been emotional. They have learned to be themselves and to build relationships with children in different year groups, that they would never have had the confidence to do without the drive of this club. Sadly, next week (Thursday 19th July) is our very last session. As new clubs come and go we will not be continuing this club in September, but hope the children would sign up to other after school clubs moving forward. However, Nurture Club WILL be back in April 2019!
This club was invitation only, and we feel many families thought there was ‘something wrong’ with their child for being invited, if you speak to these children now, and ask their opinion of the club, i am positive they will tell you it was great ‘fun’. A learning journey without a timetable, or books…
