Salvation Army Toy Appeal – November & December
We are collecting donations of toys for this appeal for children and teenagers in the area. The gifts will be donated to families across Derwentside who have been nominated to benefit from this appeal.
There will soon be a box in the school hall until 19th December for children to donate gifts (new and unwrapped) and the box will be collected by the Salvation Army and toys delivered to local families in need.
We have helped with this appeal for several years now and many children in the locality have benefited and had a better Christmas morning because of it. This appeal couldn’t happen without professionals and the public kindly taking this scheme to their hearts.

Christmas Party Day – Thursday 19th December
We have arranged the Christmas party day for all children on Thursday, 19th December. Children can come to school in party clothes but they will need suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for break time and lunchtime (there is no charge). Parties for the whole school will be all day with classes taking part in activities/games in the classroom and taking turns to use the school hall; the party will end at 3.30 p.m. as normal. Movie Club will still be on on party day.
Our Christmas Party day last year was so well enjoyed, we have booked the same company this year. We want to make every child have a special day over the festive period, and although many children will be blessed with celebrations galore, some children may not be so fortunate. So with this in mind, we have re-booked a specialist company to provide each year group with a party to remember…’A Winter Woodland Party’
The company is going to spend the whole day in school and will entertain each year group in turn with games, music, props, prizes and more! The cost of this is £1 per child, which should cover some of the cost; the rest will be heavily subsidised from our Private School Funds. This £1 can be sent into school from now until the day of the party and a register of payments will be kept should you forget if you have paid.

Children will have their normal meal (school dinner/packed lunch) at lunchtime and the party food at about 2.40 p.m. Could we please ask for donations for the party tea from parents as in previous years?
Children are asked to bring food for the party as detailed below (brought in the day before or on the morning of the party).

Some party tea food ideas are:
Hot dog sausages (mini or cut), Cocktail sausages, Cheese chunks, Babybell, Cheese strings, Small pickled onions, Sandwiches, Pizza and garlic bread (cooked), Savoury rolls, Pie (cooked), Crisps (ready salted and flavoured), Pringles/Puffy crisps, Pepperami, Chicken bites/satays, Cucumber, Cherry tomatoes, Cream crackers, Bread sticks. If possible can we avoid Sausage Rolls…as you can imagine, we get them in abundance! Cakes and Buns (shop bought or homemade), Biscuits (party rings, selections, oreos, digestives etc) Chocolate wrapped biscuits (kitkat, twix, penguins etc), Marshmallows, Haribos, Sweets, Bottles of dilute juice, Grapes/Satsuma’s.

Children in Need – Friday 15th November
As you may already know, Friday 15th November is the BBC Children in Need Appeal. Our school is excited to be joining in with this fundraising event. BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s UK corporate charity. Thanks to the support of the public, they are able to make a real difference to the lives of children all across the UK. Money we raise through activities on the day will be donated to Children in Need.
Below is what we are doing on the day:
Come to school wearing anything spotty or something yellow for £1
Sweet tombola – we would appreciate it if you could donate sweets, lollipops, tubs, chocolates, bars of confectionery etc. You can send these donations in as soon as you can in order for our School Council to organise the stall. Tickets will be sold for 20p each on the day so that children have plenty of opportunity to win prizes throughout the day (Money to go towards Children in Need).
Other activities will be carried out in your child’s class throughout the day. We are sure the children will all have great fun.

Christmas Show Productions – Important Information
Apologies in advance for the length of this news alert…but all the information IS important!
It is not long now till the children perform their Christmas shows for you. Following the half term your child will be rehearsing their lines, songs and dances. Please feel free to help them at home!
For families who are used to our shows being at the Empire Theatre and performed as a whole school, you may be surprised to have learnt that this year things will be very different. We are strengthening our links with Consett Academy and they have very kindly offered us the use of their Auditorium.
Letters with further details will go out after half term, but below are things we must inform you about.
Lower School Show – Tuesday 17th December starting at 2.15 p.m. at Consett Academy
Upper School Show – Wednesday 18th December starting at 2.15 p.m. at Consett Academy
As the shows are after lunch, children will be on their usual meal arrangements that day. All children must come to school at the normal time on the day, please ensure they have a coat as they will be walking to the Academy from school. Tickets can only be purchased from Mrs Raine, and they are £3.00 each. They are limited to two tickets per child. The information that will be sent out after the holidays will have clear instructions as to how to purchase your two tickets, however, you must do this by Friday 15th November. If you do not purchase your two tickets they will be sold to other family members and you risk missing the performance. We appreciate that many families will want to purchase more than two tickets (grandparents especially). There will be opportunity to do this once priority tickets have been sold.
On Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th November between 9.00 – 10.00 a.m. Mrs Raine will be in the hall ready to sell additional tickets to extended family members. These are on a first come basis, with no limit per sale, but unfortunately no tickets can be reserved by phone or email, this makes it a fair process for all.
The Academy are being very accommodating in allowing us to use their facilities, but they do have strict regulations. There is no provision to store prams/pushchairs, the toilets facilities are only for children, the car park is only for Consett Academy staff and there will be no entry into the Academy before 1.55 p.m. (due to their students lesson change overs). Therefore doors open to families at 2.00 p.m. Sorry, but we must respect their terms.
The tickets are numbered, but your seats are not. Therefore, people arriving for admission at 1.45 p.m. have first choice on the seats they want. As all seats are expected to be sold, please do not leave individual seats spare between you as this will only delay the start of the performance. There is strictly no admission without your ticket.
There are no mobile phones/cameras allowed during the performances. We have a duty to safeguard our children.
Both shows will start at 2.15 p.m. and estimate to be finished by 3.15/3.30 p.m. If you have other children still at school, they will remain here until you can collect them. The Infant School have also been informed of these dates. If you are not coming to your child’s performance your child will be walked back to school for collection, you are of course welcome to collect them from teachers from outside of the Academy at 3.30 p.m
Doodle Club will still be on after school on Tuesday 17th December.
Friday – Last Day of this Half Term
This Friday (25th October) is the final day of this half term. School will be closed for one week, re-opening at 7.45 a.m. for breakfast club on Monday 4th November.
Children have the option to come to school in non-uniform for a £1 school council fund fine. Payable to the teacher at morning registration.
Art club and football training ARE still on this Friday.
Please check the website for the new and existing clubs running after the half term, as some have finished this week (Lego and Dodgeball). Please ensure you take note of the dates your child’s club start and finish on. If you have not already paid for your child’s club (if applicable), this must be paid on return to school.

Poppy Appeal 2019
The Royal British Legion are asking the nation to Rethink Remembrance by recognising the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community, past and present.
By wearing a poppy and/or poppy merchandise, you aren’t just remembering the fallen: you’re supporting a new generation of veterans and Service personnel that need our support.
We are now selling poppy merchandise in school as follows:
Reflectors: 50p
Zip Pull: 50p
Silicon Wristband: £1.00
Snap Band: £1.50
Children can make purchases in the hall during the first morning break. Alternatively you can send in the correct money in an envelope which states your child’s name and what you would like to purchase. Poppies are also on sale for a small donation.
We only have one box or merchandise so it is likely to sell out fast.
